Reprobates and bloggers – The Digital Edge Podcast

Posted on 31 March 2009 by Nic Haralambous

I’m still not convinced by the validity of the Podcast in the local market. Yet Saul and Jarred continue to try and prove me wrong. They’ve been doing a relatively good job of it lately and even went as far as to invite me on to the latest episode of the Digital Edge.

You can download it or listen to it live by heading over to the Digital Edge website.

From the site:

We speak to Nic Haralambous of SA Rocks, Seth Rotherham of 2Oceansvibe, Exmi from Expensive Mistakes Cheap Thrills, Shaun Oakes of Shaun Oakes.com, Jason Bagley from the Incredible Connection blog and finally Se7en from Se7en.org. We round up that line up with a summary of the blogosphere by Justin Hartman, head of blog aggregator Afrigator.

Nothing particularly groundbreaking came out of the bloggers interviews: We are all egotistical, we all like to win stuff, we all brag, blah blah blah. It’s riveting blogger “Days of our living lives online” sorta stuff.

Definitely worth listening to. Do it.

And thanks to Saul and Jarred for having me on the show. Always a good boost to the ego hey?!

The Brendan JACKast hits the waves

Posted on 28 November 2008 by Nic Haralambous

I have to admit that I am a massive fan of Brendan Jack’s incredibly dry humour and great approach to everything.

So I would like to introduce my readers to the Brendan JACKast. The guy is hilarious and has some great guests to boot. This episode features [briefly] Politics, expats, comedy, nuclear submarines and a whole lot more.

It’s a fairly big file (which I hope that Brendan will reconsider), close to 20mb. You can subscribe to the podcast in iTunes or download the file directly on the Brendan JACKast website.

I’m really impressed with the quality of the recording, the editing is great and the entire podcast flows very well. Listen to it in the background while doing some work and laughed my ass off (it was very uncomfortable).

So anyways, Enjoy and follow Mr Jack doing some sterling work in SA!

Classic FM, SA Good News, HCR Blog and SA Rocks

Posted on 11 September 2008 by Nic Haralambous

Last night I joined Martine and Ian from the HCR Blog and SA Good News respectively on Athol Williams’ show “The state of the nation” on Classic FM.

I thoroughly enjoyed the full hour show and the debate that was sparked. There really is too much to blog about so I have uploaded the podcast to SA Rocks. It’s an hour long but only 13mb in size so feel free to download it and listen.

Click here to download/listen to the podcast.

I tried hard but failed dismally to upload it on to SA Rocks. I just didn’t have the time today to upload it to the site.

Podcamp ’08…in Bloem

Posted on 26 February 2008 by Nic Haralambous

I love it when people innovate. I love it when South Africans break the mould, or make the mould, and do something fresh and funky.

I also really enjoy podcasts. I think that secretly I long to be on the radio (or TV) and just can’t manage to do that right now. So Podcasting is my outlet.

I used to do a podcast here on SA Rocks that I enjoyed and thought was fairly well received. Yet it took up too much time and when you have a permanent job, doing a podcast is tough.

Enter Podcamp!
What is Podcamp? Let the website explain:

What is a Podcamp?

“The characteristics of all successful communities: broadly shared, accessible set of opportunities, a shared sense of responsibility for the success of the common enterprise, and a genuine sense of belonging.” – Former President Bill Clinton, TED2007

A PodCamp is a usually free BarCamp-style community UnConference for new media enthusiasts and professionals including bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, social networkers, and anyone curious about new media. The first PodCamp was held September 8-10, 2006 in Boston, Massachusetts. PodCamps are now being held worldwide.

There you go, simple, it is an UnConference. Easy. Huh?

Basically you go and listen, blog podcast, learn, interact, innovate, speak and anything else you want to do in that day. It’s an UnConference, dammit!

I am pretty interested in going and have been told to drag the like of Vincent, Matt and Justin to the UnConference too. It is in Bloemfontain so I am seriously considering heading down for the day and getting my podfill.

For now, if you want more information visit the Podcamp’s rocking new site (very impressive design and interaction) or get on to Twitter and contact Jonin60seconds. To register visit the Podcamp Wiki.

Listen To The Negative And Stay Positive – GeckoVox and SA Rocks

Posted on 01 June 2007 by Nic Haralambous

I had the pleasure of being interviewed by one Paul Jacobson for his podcast, GeckoVox. The podcast was released yesterday. Hop on over to the GeckoVox site and give a listen to what I have to say.

In the podcast I talk of change happening over time, people interacting with one another via blogs and sites like this one and others similar to SA Rocks and general positivity. I think it is extremely important to realise that here in SA there are issues we face that dampen our progress as a nation but as Paul poses the question: How do you talk about the negative stuff and still remain positive. I give my opinion on the podcast.

The SA Rocks Podcast Is Coming…

Posted on 18 May 2007 by Nic Haralambous

The production of an SA Rocks Podcast is underway. Well, not really underway but under serious discussion!

I am opening up the featured interviews on the podcast to the readers of this blog. Tell me what to ask, who to interview and for how long . Help me to find, expose and discuss the most incredible people, organisations and projects in South Africa. The best way for everyone to get the most out of this podcast will be to involve all of you in as much of the interview process as possible.

Please join in the debate and leave your comments telling me who you want me to get hold of an interview. Extend your minds, search your interest and find cracking interviews for me to do! Once the interviews have been decided upon and are announced, help me to decide what to ask!

As soon as the first interviewee has been decided upon you can look forward to the pilot SA Rocks Podcast! WooHoo!
