This is incredible! I cannot believe some of the stuff that he says. Or maybe I can, because people like that can be found everywhere, but they usually don’t get a stage like this person has – on mainstream media.
So I don’t know whether to think that the media is very bold and daring to give a voice to everyone including people like him (not the case everywhere), or to be scared – this can’t possibly be mainstream…
But Nic, well done, well spoken and keep up the good work, SA sure rocks, and that’s why I’m moving South soon

I think it easy to stick up for things when yo uhaven’t had your wife or sister burnt by an iron for 3 hours. It’s easy to say ‘don’t give me problems, give me solutions’. What solutions are you giving on SA Rocks Nic? Are you providing lists of proposed answers to government failures or even shortcomings in your own city? Just sitting next to a flag and going ‘SA is so cool’ isn’t a solution, so try answering your own call to provide solutions and maybe others will follow.

Bronwyn: Did you go the million man march against crime? Do you promote and support small South African companies just starting out, do you go door to door in your neighbourhood trying to increase community communication and interaction? Apparently you don’t read this blog too frequently, cos those are the kind of things that Nic engages in. It may not be resolving all of SA’s issues in one shot, but each small effort makes a difference. All I know is that racial slurs and hate mongering is certainly not going to improve the situation, if you support this kind of thing then by all means send us your plan on exactly how it will work towards reducing crime and creating a peaceful SA.

Nic, I have to agree with Bronwyn’s comments.
Your efforts are commendable, but for the families of the hundreds of victims of crime every day, how can something “rock?” It is just difficult to fathom right now.
If for example crime was reducing at a RAPID rate, then we could say that “rocks,” but right now? Surely not. Please bear with me here.
@ Sarah – with absolute respect, the hundreds of marches and campaigns against crime have all been fobbed off and amounted to nothing. As you may just notice.

Please tell me what marching against crime achieves?
Are we going to embarrass criminals into changing their ways? I think not! Marching against crime is like fu**ing for virginity, or even in real world terms, killing for peace.
I think your efforts would be more constructive if you marched on parliament DEMANDING something was done.
Praying/Marching/Chanting etc that the crime problem will “self rectify” is naive in the extreme!
You should all “Complain if you want good service” (see what I did there Nic?) and that includes SAPS, MP’s, Eskom, Telkom etc.
Just please don’t try to wish/pray/march them away. Criminals are not that abiding.

I only became aware of both these sites in the last week. zasucks provides a forum for highlighting many things that the media chooses not to make us aware of. Even though I do not agree with the hate speech I read on there, I agree that the incompetence of leaders and the public service entities must be spoken about. I’d also agree that the authors of that site are probably more intelligent and informed than I am and I applaud them for exercising their right to freedom of speech, although the hate speech will not fix anything. I also agree with a previous comment on this page that sarocks is not providing a forum for discussion of solutions. Having spent some years abroad, I chose to come back and live in my country of birth, because I love it here. After my return it was startling to see how things have deteriorated. Media (including sarocks) really only serve to blind us with fluffy rainbow magic while there is much going on that might result in us saying one day “but we never saw it coming!”. Again, I do not agree with the hate speech on zasucks, but I defend their right to free speech. At least they are talking. I would encourage the supporters of that site to continue, whilst realizing that hatred only serves to make themselves more unhappy. True happiness for all South Africans can only come from within ourselves. Only by changing your mind can you change the world. If your motivation is pure, your actions will be pure and the results will be pure.
Lastly, I notice both sites have a little google map, and it appears zasucks has orders of magnitude more visitors than sarocks. Luckily we all have the freedom to support or ignore the sites we choose to.

I left SA in ‘04 after being attacked in my own home by 4 blacks. I survived because their fire-arm jammed after the first shot and I had good neighbours. 2 escaped and 2 were wounded, treated at one of the best hospitals and released on bail. Needles to say they dissappeared. I have never felt so insecure in all my life. The police have done nothing because they are either over worked, too lazy or are too busy planning their own illegal activities. At least in the UK the politicians are humble enough to try to hide their plundering of our taxes. SAsucks/rocks/ilovesa, none of these sites will accomplish anything, only the Gov can do that. I’m sorry I had to leave but if anything happened to my family due to my having done nothing, I would never forgive myself. I wish you all the very best in the future.
