I have long maintained that if you want to leave a country (South Africa) then you should. Nothing should keep you in a country that makes you dreadfully unhappy.
What am I on about?
A WHITE South African man has been granted refugee status in Canada after an immigration board ruled that his “fear of persecution by African South Africans” was justified.
It seems as though Canada has become an enabler of the worst kind for emigration of lazy South Africans who need a quick shot out of a bad spot and their 15minutes of infamy globally. The “victim” here clearly should be leaving South Africa anyways. It seems as though he has no idea of what constitutes an “African”. In my book, it’s not a racial thing. So does Mr Brandon Huntley, 31, think he is being persecuted by every person who considers themselves African? I consider myself African. I know many a pale-face who consider themselves African too. So then, by proxy, Huntley is not being racially persecuted. He is being persecuted for other reasons.
In case you are misunderstanding my stance: I think that Huntley is flat out wrong here. I think he is using the plight of our nation’s past to further his own agenda and find an easy way in to a country that was sympathetic to his ignorant, stupid, short sighted and lazy version of “persecution”.
I would like to quote an article in The Times: “This is really not a story about whites in South Africa, but about the Canadian refugee system that is broken and the authorities will believe any story they are told.” – source
Now that’s the point right there. The point is that it is an impossibility to take the “plight” of a single white South African and generalise it to the entire racial group of a country and then say that we all are being persecuted. Let me blunt here: We are not, as a racial group, being persecuted in South Africa. Maybe some are, many might be victims of crime but crime is prevalent for every racial group in South Africa.
Furthermore I have read and heard that Huntley has not gone to the police and laid charges against anyone for any of the alleged seven racial hate-crimes committed against him. Why? What does that say about Canada and their rubbish system of granting “refugee” status? Why was the South African government not allowed to comment or do any of their own investigations in to the matter? What sort of country simply grants this sort of status without looking in to all avenues and causes and effects?
I think Canada looks stupid. I think Huntley looks stupid and I think that they both deserve one another.

I do agree with your comments! It is silly, but maybe Mr Huntley has got a point, he just brought it forward in such a way to benefit himself! The point he is making is that our lovely government cannot look after their own people. Crime is such an everyday thing that has become part of the best comedy show topics and jokes. We don’t live in fear of crime, because you cannot fear what you have to put up with each day, it is just life… SA residents going abroad on holiday cannot be fooled, conned, pick-pocketed (ok, maybe some) because we are trained professionals… The government will spend millions on new cars, but not extra effort for police, additional resources, hospitals… Call a few police stations and ask them for assistance with some theft… 50% will only respond in 48hours to 7 days… Our police system cannot take care of their residents. That is the naked truth!

You are missing the point son.
People leave SA because of crime and being victims. The other reason is AA / BEE. Sp his reasons are valid, and think you are blind for calling him and Canada stupid. (but well you are from Africa right!).
Here is a question for you to think about. Is the crime in SA being committed by the poor or being committed by the blacks in SA? Regardless of the answer, the statement in Canada is true. You fear for your live in Africa as Arican SA people do violent crime.
SA has a major problem with crime and rasism (againt blacks and whites).
And btw, when are you running away seeing you have EU passport?

The judges agreed that Mr Huntley deserves refugee status in Canada, and expressed concern that the man would face almost certain death if he returned to South Africa.
The South African government and its extended arm, the xenophobic black ANC which organised the witch hunt against foreigners last year leaving 73 people murdered, did not raise the issue of the court’s judgment (well aware that Canada enjoys a higher reputation than itself), but lashed out at “the white boy, who cannot tell us how we rule the country.” As if that was the issue…

This admission of a “White” South African in to Canada as a refugee only means that Canada has not changed its immigration rules since the “previous regime” in South africa. But I do not remeber there being such a fuss when “Black” South Africans claimied refugee status. I do not know the ‘refugee’ concerned but try being a white male school leaver these days.

Now, what is this? Now that one white man wants to get out Africa it’s a problem, but every year how many African goes to Europe or America? Why do they want to get out?
Cause you don’t know what it is like in Africa. It’s easy to judge a person on TV. But when you are the person being judge in this country it’s a different story. So be careful, cause what is happening in SA is grating more Hitler’s’ among us. So forcing us to be here is not doing anyone any good.
If Brandon Huntley is going to be better in Canada, who are we to stop him. It’s better for him being there than creating a Hitler here…

Do you not remember what happened to your country in the late seventies and eighties? You had a strong GDP and rich country….you ignored the wold cried to abolish apartheid… And the result was he world turned against you and history tell you what happened. Seems like after all these years you still have not learnt anything! Guys, the man is entitled to do what he feels is best for his family. Yes, some of us may not agree with the means by which he achieved this but so what? I am a South African with an EU passport and I haven’t left the country, its a beautiful place with great potential if run properly, just the same as any country out there. Crime is an issue in all countries and if it isn’t crime it’s work and if it isn’t work it’s war and if it isn’t war it’s… blah blah blah we could sit here the whole day!! Sometimes the reason for the roses blooming so nicely in your neighbours garden is the fact that the manure is of a richer quality – just a thought…

Know any journalist who is willing to put their money where their mouth is, on their opinion? A blogger journalist is willing to put a Krugerrand (R10,000) on her opinion that black on white murder, rape and assault is racially motivated….

Yes, have been saying this for a long time….
SA needs to look at why the source of crime. Is is:
1) Is the crime being comitted by blacks?
2) is the crime being committed by the poor?
Different solutions for each. Having a blog and using so called positive propagada is in addressing the issue or finding a solution.
But as SA do not publish crime stats (duh!? ,)&@;) you guys will never find the real issue, and hence can not put action plan in place to solve it. More and more people will leave as your gov and people blame everything on the past (apartheid). You people should stop complaining and address the crime issue. The rest (AA/BEE) will sort itself in a few generations.
Or maybe you want to start the thirld world war as you got caught out at cheating in sport!

I heard that Mr Huntley is actually a coloured person? Is this correct? If so then he is not white. Maybe then he is black like President Obama?
