VOTE FOR TABLE MOUNTAIN

People in Cape Town go absolutely mental over Table Mountain and it is no wonder to me why.

They use it as a navigational aid, they use it as justification for living in CT, hell, they even use it to predict the weather and speak of blankets emerging from behind the mountain and cover the top of the table with some sort of cloth (I think that is a reference to what other folk like to call “clouds”).

But let’s just be honest here for a second, Table mountain is, without the shadow of a doubt, one of the most incredible wonders of our world that is still standing, has not been destroyed and provides many people with an immense amount of joy and pride.

What better reason do you need then to go and vote for Table Mountain to become one of the new 7 wonders of the world.

Thanks so much Nic! I have voted for Table Mountain… COme on South Africa, we need to get into the top 11. Just remember that you need to set aside about 10 mins to vote. It will be worth it when the hordes of tourists flood into our country!

l have always known that Table mountain was a “wonder” because as a child l “owned” it, by that l mean it was my playground, my pals and l were known as the Vredehoek gang, not a “gang” in the modern sense but a group of carefree kids who lived around where those horrible towers stand today on the slopes of Devils peak, that position in those days was called, “the clay pit” and it was here in the pit which was full of red clay that we planned our school holidays entertainment.
After filling our bags with food and drink for the trek ahead we would start off through the woods into “Momsens” field and up past Devils peak quarry to Tafelberg rd then a short climb to “Red rock cave which was our first resting place where we would amuse ourselves, as young boys do, by trying to spot baboons or better still a “bergie” hut. rested, we climbed even higher up Devils peak to “breakfast rock” in the saddle between Devils peak and Table mountain, from here we had a view of both Cape town and the suburbs, breakfast rock was our “command” post, it was fom here that we were rulers of all we could see. After lunch and a cold drink we set off along the contour path that runs along the bottom of the cliff faces only stopping for a dink of water,–we knew where all the cavelets were and would place our mugs under dripping moss and drink cold Table mountain water, the sweetest water in the world! At the path-end we stopped for a while and admired the view across the “twelve appostles” from Camps bay towards Oudekraal before decending to Kloof nek and a nice even walk along the “pipe track” back to vredehoek,–usually momments before our worried parents were about to launch a search party as it would be late afternoon by then.
l recommend that walk to anyone who wants to “get up close and personal” with Table mountain,–on a nice day the beauty and grandeur of the mountain will take your breath away as it did me all those years ago as a child. l live in Scotland now and fish in the wild countryside of North west Rossshire the scenery here is almost as good,–almost!

I have been in here and read some stories on many occasion. From what I can tell from what I have read is that most whites ran South Africa for many years with an iron fist. It is almost like the Russians and the Germans. The only difference is that you whites did it to people of different color. It seems like they were treated very badly and had very few rights. Now that the table has turned and they are in control, you whites don’t like it and want things to go back to the way they were. That will never happen, I don’t know if you whites have seen but the blacks with us Muslims are slowly taking over the world and one day there will be no place for you to go. Now I can hear what you are saying, never, wont let it happen, will stop you……….and so on. But lets face it, you whites don’t have the guts or will power to do anything. Why do you think Africa has been taken over, same as England and now America? It is happening and there is nothing you can do as you are not willing to give your life for the cause. In most Eastern and Arab countries, people will die for what they believe. But you whites will just sit here on the Internet and talk about what should have been done and what you would like to do.
IN LIFE THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE
DOERS AND TALKERS. You whites are the talkers!

I completely disagree with New 7 Wonders. How can one vote to decide which wonder is better than the other? Every wonder has their own special place. None needs to be above the others.
