Since it seems to be so fashionable I thought I would draw a very simple and quick point around Obama’s inauguration speech.
Yes it was moving, it was well written and exceptionally well presented but there weren’t many stand out moments in the speech.
The one thing that stood out for me that I felt spoke directly to me as a South African is this:
“…know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.”
Think about it. Think about every time you have destroyed something, someone, an idea, a decision or a choice of your own or someone else’s. Think about what that does to them and think about what we as a unit can do to be remembered for the things that we can build.

I am South African, but after Obama’s speach I almost wanted, for a tiny monent, to become an American. In my own opinion, I think Obama is going to make a huge difference to America. From the nations perspective, the financial markets, the goverment (how it operates)… huge changes … Dont want to eat my words but the changes will not only effect America but the world.

Yeah, beautiful point, well spotted. I hope that Africa was listening when he said this!
