Homecomingrevolution blogged photos from News 24 today about the protest/march held in the UK that I could support and do support.

One thing that grates me – I am from the UK originally but I have lived in South Africa since I was 13. I have an ID book, I pay tax and do everything else South Africans do.
But I am not allowed to vote in the elections for South Africa.
I am also not allowed to vote in the elections for the UK, because I left the country.
Why is it that South Africans who have buggered off to ‘better countries’ can vote in those new countries’ elections and now are campaigning to vote in the South African elections too, but I am not allowed to vote in either?
It doesn’t make sense to me.
I do agree that SA rocks hence I am still living here. I could leave and go back to the UK if I wanted to, but I really love this country and have lived here since 1996. I don’t want to leave. But it really pisses me off that I have no say in the political future of the country when I have lived here for 12 years.
Dammit I think I am just going to have to get an SA passport.

I know of Chinese people who’s parents go back to China only during election times to vote. They don’t protest… These people need to realise you can’t always have your cake and eat it.
