If crime isn’t a problem in SA and everyone has a job, if poverty doesn’t exist and everyone has food to eat, if every child is educated, not starving and has a roof over their heads and if South Africa is perfect…
then why vote?
The above statement is outrageous. At SA Rocks I have always maintained that I am not blindly and ignorantly positive. I am well aware of the problems facing South Africa but believe that they are problems that we can overcome, as a nation.
This is why today I have launched WhyVOTE?
WhyVOTE is an attempt at rallying people around registration and voting in the 2009 elections.
If this country is perfect in your eyes then why vote? But if you feel that change needs to take place then maybe it’s time you step up to the plate and contribute to your nation.
All the details are available on the site. So head over to WhyVOTE? and spread the word, download the banners and add your voice to the cause.
It’s time that we take back our country and show the world and our government and people how much we believe that SA really does Rock.

Brilliant initiative Nic. I feel exactly the same way and coincidentally also launched a site this week (1vote) to raise awareness about voting.
Keep up the good work!

Great stuff – both you Nic and Ash – the more we are able to discuss politics, and encourage debate, the more people will be able to have the confidence to make their mark. Especially now – our political situation is probably the most interesting it has been for years, and possibly for the first open to new ideas – all the better to encourage people to make a difference!
Nice work guys

I think this is just brilliant and hopefully that it takes off the more people that vote the better I am so tired of the people who don’t vote and then still have the cheek to complain about who runs the country.

Hey Nic. Long time.
Question….Is it just me or am I seeing a total disregard for the democracy that the ANC has fought for over the years? The disruptions of Lekotas talks and the threats thrown at him remind me of most of the other African nations and some terrible Eastern Europeans countries where democracy is just a word thrown around by power hungry dictators.
This is not the country that you are so happily fighting for man. Whats going on?

Hey Kim – Thanks for the comment. Ye, this is the point, people need to vote, talk about voting, register, talk about registering, they need to be active citizens. If they aren’t then we are to blame for the ANC’s majority rule and bad behaviour.
Verge – pretty much what I’ve said above. This is the country I am still happily fighting for because I believe it can be great if we make some changes and implement a mentality of ownership and change.
We need to own the vote. We need to own the political parties, registration, voting polls, booths, provinces, everything. They are ours and we need to take them back from the government. This country is ours and that, I am willing to fight for.

You lots are living in a dream world. South Zimbabwe is going down the drain and it is because the %$ has run it into the ground. Just like they have done to the rest of Africa. I cant wait for the day the world just writes Africa off and forgets about it. Africa is just a big black hole full of shit.
Dream on.
PS:I know you wont publish this, you dont have the balls.
