Keep the springbok rugby emblem, I don’t think you can certifiably state with certainty that majority of South Africans are offended by the emblem.

How can they even consider getting rid of the SpringBok logo! The springbok; in a way; unites us! The Springboks are the rugby world champions, no the Proteas! If they do get rid of the emblem, it will be a really sad day! For all South Africans…

I am currently in the U.K. and when mentioning this debate I am being met by utter amazement. How on earth could South African’s even consider changing this emblem is a frequent comment? How about concentrating on subjects such as better training grounds or more funds for schools, are other suggestions.

Will any serious rugby playing nation consider changing their name for whatever reason. Lions to Lambs, All Blacks to All Greens, Wallabies to Sheep – i think not.
We have a proud heritage associated with Springboks – internationally recognized.
Let’s keep politics out of sport – our politicians should focus on what makes the rand strong and they could well do with as much time as possible to achieve this.
Can it be put to the vote ?

Agree absolutely. Don’t fix something that isn’t broken. Springboks have won the rugby world cup twice – I was at the first one in 1995 at Ellis Park – absolutely awesome & the whole nation was united – blacks, whites, pinks, & oranges!!!

How can they even consider to get rid of our logo???? How about concentrating on subjects such as better training grounds or more funds for schools and government hospitals, where it is really needed!!!!!! Please keep politics out of sports, you are busy destroying the love of the game for everybody. Get a life!!!!!

South Africa has gone mad, there is nothing that we seem to be doing right these days, except not cutting interest rates. the logo should stay, we are becoming a lost nation, we are losing a valuable history for generations to come, save the logo, save the legacy of rainbow nation.

Maybe there should be a survey. If it really offends people then sure. But that does seem like an unneccesary waste of money and time.

This goes beyond any so called “offence” and history the emblem may have. This is our government’s alternative way of exercising their power and authority where it really renders to be useless. No matter how many name change we have, our country keeps on taking one step backward instead of developing further. This is because of the inappropriate use of funds.Basically, let the bok reign

Why don’t they use the national flower Africana Plastica.Seems that it blooms on every tree in the country, comes in all colours and sizes,is used for advertizing, and is also useful to carry beer to the game.Should be acceptable to all members of society.

Reading the Star Letters dated Monday 13th October 2008 I realized that my Father was also a SPRINGBOK as he partook in the PAG at EL ALAMAIN. As the letter says (writen by Sean Pittit) was long before aparthied. Long live the SPRINGBOK emblem and long live the memory of my Fathers and all the fathers Black and White who volenteered for their country under the SPRINGBOK emblem. Every one wearing this emblem shows they are part of the turmoile that has driven this country to what it is to-day, thank you Mr.MANDELA for the dignity you showed to the nation and the SPRINGBOK emblem.

8 springbok supporters marched to parliament yesterday to protest against the culling of the SA rugby emblem.
Disappointing.

Another Smokescreen!!!!
When is this gov going to get off their amply gravy fattend asses and take care of the more important issues(health care;AIDS;INFRASTRUCTURE??????????????????????????CORRUPTION) and stop racialising minor matters. This is all to distract from their complete and utter incompitancy in every dept, other than self enrichment and screwing up the few things that still work. The ANC is as racialist as the last goverment
October 21st, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Nice to know that the ANC is sort of supporting the bok. The main thing for me is that the Springbok is regarded by the world as a symbol for South African sport, not WHITE South African sport, but for the entire country. Its seems to me that the idiots who are proposing this change just want to get their 5 minutes worth on SABC. The coverage of JZ and Malema has obviously inspired other departments to break into television. If people insisted that Bafana Bafana changed their name as it isolated other members of the country, we would be told (in no uncertain terms), that we were being stuipid and as such didn’t know what we are talking about. However, because it’s the Springbok, we must just accept it as an evil that needs to be expunged, which is just plain ridiculous. Bok for life!

I can’t believe this! Let me tell you a story…I became a rugby supporter when i saw the springboks play during the world cup 2007. After this very game i started watching every other until the finals when they won the cup. And let me tell you, it was a great feeling! Now, i’m not a south african but i feel like this team is the closest to my heart that a team can ever get. And believe me when i say that my idea of them can never be one without a springbok logo. The name of the team itself speaks about how important it is to save the logo as it is. There was a short period, about a month ago, when the Springboks weren’t in their best shape and we were feeling very bad after couple of lost games….so then my family, friends and i decided that for the next game we will do something different, something to show our support for the springboks. So we made an entire springbok setting for the game…the walls were covered with pictures of the players, the entire room was covered in green, we were all wearing springboks t-shirt and right above the TV Screen we put one big pillow case with a huge springbok drawn on it….i tell you it was awesome…and we won! So i don’t really know how exactly am i supposed to feel when i hear that there’s been talks about getting rid of that logo that brings so many memories not only to me but to every single springbok supporter out there…an emblem that wears on it’s shoulders the history of a great team…now…it’s too bad that i’m in Bulgaria because believe me if i was there in South Africa i would be the head of a strike against this stupid decision and it would have lasted for days if it had to! Get it together and go out there and show your support for the poor springbok and show to everyone that you won’t allow this to go any further! At least you have the chance to do it!

Attacks on the sprinbok emblem are petty attempts by both militant and ignorant antagonists, tormenting loyal Springbok supporters of all colours and creeds. The emblem first appeared as a copyright during the 1906 UK tour, before apartheid was heard of. During the tour the bokkies chanted a Zulu warcry before each game and were almost victorious, losing only to the Scots. Consequently, the spirit of South African rugby focused internationally as the famous South African Springboks. And to destroy today’s post apartheid, only fully successful sporting team in South Africa, with two world cups to prove it, has to be the work of aimless political morons. If they kill Bokkie, they will kill the box office and all the revenues attached to the symbol along with South African rugby pride. Rally support by refusing to attend any games without the Springbok. In fact put Bokkie in the national flag!!
