SA Blog Awards winners announced

Unfortunaley SA Rocks didn’t come away with any awards, but like any good Oscar nominated actor let me clearly state that I am extremely happy to have been nominated in the Best Blog and Best Group Blog categories.

Congratulations firstly go out to the organisers of the event (Ideate.co.za, Webaddict.co.za and Cherryflava.com). They did a good job and rolled with the punches. I am sure that this years lessons will be learned and taken in to account for next years awards. To see the winners visit the sablogawards site.

Props must go out to big media this year. Like Time magazine told us last year, You are the person of the year and we all benefited from that announcement. This years blog awards show that blogging is booming in SA. A great post was written with some insight by the guys at Ideate this morning, have a read and while you’re at it see what Mr Stopforth has to say on the issue. While I’m at it, congratulations also go out to Afrigator on their one year birthday celebration today!

Mail & Guardian have proactively attacked the online market with a zest for success and it paid dividence. They took home four awards including Best Blog, Political Blog (both for ThoughtLeader) and Best Website Promoting Blogging for Amatomu. Matthew Buckland won best business blog to throw that in to the M&G mix. And big up to Vincent Maher for all his awards and to Riaan Wolmerans for his involvement there too!

East Coast Radio made some waves winning a chunk of awards too.

Best Green Blog was taken home by Urban Sprout. I am really happy about this one. I voted for them and support their cause 100%. They have posted on SA Rocks before and I subscribe to their feed and read every post they write. Great work!

An SA Rocks contributor also managed to stake her claim. Well done to Cooksister for your triumph in the Best Overseas South African Blog and Best SA Blog about Food and Wine categories!

Other mentions go out to Keo, Tertia and Chris from Imod for taking their categories! Brilliant stuff!

I am not going to be one of those faceless nameless bloggers who blindly praises everyone inspite some level of dissapointment. So with my praising over. I must say that it’s never cool to lose anything. And as Ricky Bobby’s daddy noted, “If you’re not first, you’re last,” said with a heavy American accent. I am dissapointed but nevertheless this is how it works and you can’t win everything all the time.

My final thanks go out to the SA Rocks readers, to everyone who voted and the great people who love SA and continue to support SA and the causes that I believe in and know that others do too!

Let’s get blogging.

Hey Nic. Thanks for voting for us, and for the comments, links and all-round support. You’re definitely the right guy at the helm of SA Rocks. So damn positive. We like that.
We were thrilled to win the inaugural Best Green Blog award and I just know that by next year there are going to be many more green blogs. Fantastic!

Thanks for the mention – I was immensely chuffed but devastated to see you guys didn’t make it!

Nic the fact that you were nominated is a victory in itself.

Your blog is positive and exactly what the country needs right now.

Above all try and behave yourself…

Mike! Thanks so much, I agree, think it is cool for this blog just to be nominated, it’s only been a year and I work tirelessly on my own to make it work!! :)

Thanks for your kind words. And, me? Behave? Always!!

    Hi Nic

I too am one of the also-rans but am very proud of the fact that mine is a single contributor blog with no giant media support and no advertising. Run it on about 99c a month, too much coffee and too little sleep. Considering the huge media pull and spend of some of the winners (not to take away from their exceptional work for a second) we can be proud to be in such company.

See you at the top of the pile at next years awards

The Addict, thanks for the kind words! Glad you with me on this one and taking it on your stride. Think we should both just target next years awards and keep at it!
