Million-man march on the 13th of March

Posted on 09 March 2008

The Sunday Times has reported that the Million-man march being organised by Desmond Dube is to be held on the 13th of March, 2008 to the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

I would really like more information like where it starts, what time and all the rest. But for now at least we know it’s on the 13th. I have had people tell me they are going to close down there businesses so that staff can attend. Brilliant idea.

If you have more information please do let us all know!

Enjoy your Sunday!

well i think its about time that we south africans stop talking and start doing.for to long we have allowed people to terrorise us by the constant fear that we will be next. where is the democracy that we all fought for.where is the respect for the people who fought for this change.are we not disappointing them?
south africa take back your pride and lets join in.
maybe more marchs should happen through out the country…

I for one will go, even if I have to take leave. The march is on 24 April. I suppose more details will be provided in the media as we get closer to the time. I think it will feel great to actually DO something and not just hide away and hope that you’ll be safe for one more day. Wouldn’t it be great if we could have a country again where we could walk in the streets in the evenings without the fear of being robbed or even murdered. Wouldn’t it be great if we could go to sleep without switching on 20 alarms first. Wouldn’t it be great if children could walk unaided to their friends without the fear of them being abducted? Wouldn’t it be great if we could forget to lock our car/house doors every once in a while? I am dreaming of the country SA could be. Take the crime out of SA and it could be one of the best places to live. I will stay and try to make a difference – even if it is just to vote for an opposition party next year!!!

One other recommendation is to post an online petition to be handed in at the Union Buildings so that the rest of us who are in support of this initiative but are not in Gauteng can add our names.

I think this is an excellent idea. I cant seem to get more info though. John Robbie spoke about it briefly last week, is there a journalist who can speak to Desmond Dube directly to get more info?

I think Desmond Dube, needs to be congratulated and supported by the whole nation, this is an ambisiuos goal and I think Desmond is demonstrating a lot of courage for the good of all South Africans.

I certainly aim to take part in this great effort and think it’s about time that all desent people of our country show there distaste for criminals, by making a statement of this magnetude.

It’s AWFUL and VERY depresiing to just talk about this, especially at meal times. We cannot complain if we don’t take action.

Desmond ek sal op 10 Junie in Namibie wees. As ek hier was, WAS EK IN DIE OPTOG!! Almal wat ernstig is oor die situasie in ons land [en veral die wat so baie kla] hier is ons kans om te wys ons gee om!!

  18. Gravatar LAM Says:

I respect the people who participated in the march today, I think its commendable, but first let me take a moment to share my view on why SA has so much crime. SA has a large number of people who did not receive good education during the apartheid era who are walking around everyday watching the elite get rich and the rich get richer. Because of this it is difficult to explain to them why they cant afford such things, these are broken men and women, all they know is they fought for freedom and now they need results. They can’t understand the economies of scale or why prices are soaring, all they know is the poverty has not changed. Many of this group needs psychological counseling and encouragement to change, they need to understand that life is precious as they have been desensitized by all the deaths, killings and hardships they have endured in their lives, so you can’t preach to them, you need to council them
