SA Rocks gets a crazy new design

Yes, we’ve done it. And when I say “we” I mean Mark Forrester has done it again.

I commissioned Mark when he was here in SA visiting his family over the festive season. He crept in to the last 27 Dinner of 2007 and left with the task of redesigning SA Rocks.

The poor bastard! But let’s just have a look at what he has done! (Take a second to look around)

Mark came to the party in a big way. He captured the exciting ideas and positivity of SA Rocks in the colour scheme and interactivity of the new design. I am exceptionally happy with what he has accomplished. I can also confidently tell you that he has had to put up with alot of shit from me (sorry Mark).

If you encounter and bugs, please contact me, if you like it, say so and if you hate, well, tell me but sorry this is it!! :)

Some new and interesting additions include popularity ratings per post, author listing after every post so you know who posted what and why as well as a slideshow homepage tab, summarised posts (6 of them) on the homepage. Ad space on the left is allocated but not filled. Virgin Money continues their gracious association with SA Rocks so you can see their rocking new ad campaign on the right!

Mark also put together a brand new logo identity for SA Rocks. I think he has consolidated all the missing parts and bits and bobs that was the old SA Rocks.

I couldn’t be happier if I tried. Mark is a genius and i would recommend his services to anyone who is looking for some serious design work.

I’m not going to go on too much about the new design. Let me know what you think!

Well done guys, I like it! Very clean, crips design, no gimmicky round corners :)

For some reason the muti icon doesnt show up. Perhaps it wasnt meant to be an icon but in the source it is in an IMG tag. In Firefox it simply displays as the word “muti” but in Safari it displays as a missing icon.

Looks great. You might want to change the flag on the url icon to the SA Rocks icon.

Looking awesome! The link from Snitter opened up in IE7 and I can spot a few gremlins. ;( Oh boy.

I love the primary flag colours used in the design and the general look and feel. The only thing I don’t like is the SA in the logo. The rounded letters within the circle don’t do it for me, but other than everything else is fantastic.

Great work, clean and crips. I have to say that, like Jason, for some reason the SA in the logo just doesn’t feel 100%. Perhaps it just a bit ‘soft’?

Hey guys, thanks for the comments so far, and the kind words Nic.

    To answer a few questions:

Neville: The Muti icon should appear properly now, got lost when upgrading the plugin.

JBagley: I’ll have to check out IE7 again, it seems to be fine in IE6 so hopefully nothing major.

The logo is a play on the Superman logo portraying a bold, striking, powerful image, everything that SA Rocks represents. The rounded corners on the font makes the logo look more like a recognizable brand and less like a plain text font. Harder corners where not achieving the same effect. Hopefully it grows on you ;)

Wezz: Indeed the site is based on a premium theme that Adii and myself collaborated on, The Gazette Edition. It is a great framework to base a theme on and boasts many features.
