It’s a sad day for South Africa.
Ashley Callie – better known to audiences as Lee Haynes in the popular day-time soap Isidingo – passed away.
Ashley was involved in a car accident last weekend and was admitted to a Johannesburg Hospital. The starlet underwent surgery to alleviate pressure on her brain at the weekend and was in a serious, but stable condition. Friends and family were optimistic about her recovery, but that wasn’t to be. The family confirmed her death earlier saying she died as a result of serious head injuries sustained in the car collision. They went on to say that “Ashley continues to live on in our hearts and minds.” As I write this I get goose bumps and a lump in my throat.
I follow entertainment very closely and in my opinion Ashley was one of most talented actresses. In fact she has been nominated in the favourite actress category for the upcoming Star of Mzansi Awards- to be held at the end of the month. Her personality, presence and beauty will be missed dearly and I send out my deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. Rest In Peace Ashley.

She was one of our greatest. I remember seeing the most awesome interview with her, at her home, on Top Billing, where she came across as a down-to-earth beauty.
She will be missed. Though it is horrible for us, it must be heart-breaking for her family. My thoughts go out to them.

Spread Your Wings and Fly
I try to speak, but no words come out.
An angel we have lost, there is no doubt.
She entered this world with soul and passion,
And gave us all her love and compassion.
Her beauty so extraordinary, her smile so warm.
Her kindness, her strength, that could put out a storm.
Our minds are weak, our hearts shattered.
The roses in the garden, are all scattered.
For you have touched the life of every living thing
Forever our hearts will have a sad song to sing.
A friend, a sister, a child thats taken away.
In our hearts, you will always stay.
An angel you were born and an angel you are.
God just wanted the best angel by far.
We love you Ashley and we always will.
That special space in our hearts, you will always fill.
No matter how hard it is, we will have to pull through.
Right now, its the least we can do for you.
These tears won’t stop running down my face.
It comes down in buckets and all over the place.
My heart aches, oh its so sore.
I have never felt this way, never before.
Goodbye our sweet angel now spread those wings and fly.
May you rest in peace forever in the beautiful sky.
Blessed Be
Katz

It was with palpable sadness that I heard about the death of this sublime actress…for years she thrilled us with her powerful, convincing, even haunting portrayal of “Daddy’s girl” “ice queen” Lee; her tiffs with her father, with Cherel; and of course echoes of her late brother Duncan whom she loved so much; and her complicated relationships with men in the soapy remain evergreen and indelible in our minds. To coin a cliche, may her soul rest in peace.

in an interview with a tabloid, ashley said she was a happy person because she chose to be. happiness comes from within yourself. my god, did she die to teach us something? i believe that sincerely. thanx for that

My heart is broken. I have watched Isidingo from its inception.
I have fallen in love with Leone Hains (our Ashley). I cannot believe she is gone. The scriptwriters must not try and replace Ashley with someone else as no one will be able to take her place.
God bless you Ashley in the arms of Jesus.
The whole of SA is in mourning – you were our Princess.

it is so hard for me to even read other peoples messages about her or to here it on the nnews, i just crash down into tears. Its like i have lost a close friend.
I keep thinking that maybe this is all a mistake, that he is ok, that she is recovering, that she is not dead. I dont want to believe it.
I miss and love you ashley. you were the countrys finest!!!

Deepest condolences to Ashley’s family, friends, loved ones and fellow cast members. I never had the pleasure of meeting Ashley but I am sure she was as wonderful, heart warming, friendly and special as Lee. You have left behind a void that will never be filled. What really freaks me out now is how people and the police are saying the accident was Ashley’s fault and they have done their investigations to prove that. Firstly, Ashley is not here to defend herself and secondly, are they covering up to mask the guilt of the young “gentleman” who was driving the other motor vehicle? We will never know but I truly pray that this does not turn into a “Lady Di” saga and they just leave Ashley alone to rest in peace.

I barely ever watched Isidingo, mostly because i have such busy life. But the times i did watch Isidingo, i remember thinking to myself what a beautiful person Ashley is. I believe in reasoning the obvious, and the obvious is that Ashley was a great person. She had sketched her story to many a people whom have been so fortunate to have met or known her. She painted her success in being the humble, sophisticated, charming and clever person i believe she was. My thoughts and respects to those who were close to Ashley; her family, friends, colueges and fans. She touched many people and fans alike, and left the whole nation trembling in sadness. God bless them all…..God bless you….God bless South Africa….

A great actress Ashlet was indeed. I agree that the scriptwriters must not replace her but rather simply retire her role.

Seldom do people reach through the tv screen into our lives the way you did, Ashley. Your display in Isidingo taught many people a thing a two about themselves. You have touched lives, and will be missed.

wow wat a beauty … an inspiration to sa and to the youth.. she will be dearly missed
March 16th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Sad that she died.
But doesn’t anybody ask how come she had that accident?
A friend of mine was in the other car. Apparently, Ashley was drunk and in the wrong lane.
You should have seen the pictures of the car my friend was in.
She might have been a great actress, but (so it seems) an irresponsible person.
My friend will be okay. At least I hope.

I must say i are not familiar with that which you suggest if you claim that. Maybe I personally another person might demonstrate that with me greater. It is far from a similar we have found Parts of Asia. The natives perhaps find it just a little in another way. I usually wish to find a International woman viewpoint.

Watch it yourself and you will see him. If the camera hits him, he points in internet marketing like Uncle Sam. SuperFly Don Cornelius!!!!!
February 4th, 2012 at 7:46 pm
Can’t hear that song without dancing.Drowning in middle-aged nostalgia here, as Soul Train was an earlier childhood show for me personally.I was also thinking that the 70s were the peak years for Soul Train. Mavis Staples,Gladys Knight, etc. If Don Cornelius died in New Orleans,he’d get a jazz funeral with the Rebirth Brass Band playing “I Feel Like Funking it Up” all the way up back from your cemetary.
February 4th, 2012 at 7:47 pm
Devastated. I did not miss a show, wherever I was, for my entire childhood. That has been where we SHONE. Some other dance show since was only trying to keep up.
