SA gets first black Bok coach

What do you think about this?

Should this be a race issue, is the team rejecting the man, is the media overplaying the race card?

Should the team have the power to attempt to reject Peter de Villiers? I don’t think so. I think they need to put up and play.

I also think I need to quickly say something about support and fanatacism in SA. Let’s put it this way. Peter de Villiers is screwed. The man has the toughest four years ahead of him. He can expect SA fans to hate him when we lose, love him when we win and use his race against him. We can expect some sort of media rumble about the Bok camp being in a mess.

And we can expect that the Springboks WILL NOT WIN the next World Cup. As fans we need to be realistic and factually accurate. No team has won it twice in a row, No coach has either so let us not put that much pressure on de Villiers. I think that a more reasonable goal is for our teams to perform well again in the Super 14 and to try and win the tri-Nations tournament. That is a realist goal in my opinion.

Give him a chance, he cannot be any worse than Rudolph Strauli no matter what colour he is…He has my 100% support until he stuffs up, then there will be no mercy, just like everyone did with Jake White….

Question is, is de Villiers black enough?

He actually Coloured and has a Boer name.

There’s even LESS Coloureds than Whites in South Africa.

What is it about SA Rugby that they twist and turn every which way to AVOID appointing an actual Black person (man or woman)?

There’s of course another question implied right there:

Does the coach of our first rugby team have to be a MAN?

Good Lord, Richard – how black do you want the poor man to be?

His name holds no barring on what colour he is…

I think we should support the dude, and not hand out so much critism. The poor man must need tranquilisers already!

I actually find it very painful that in almost 14 years after ‘the fall’ (theoretical) of apartheid that we still have as racist people as we do. But then its not shocking anymore given that the very media (all forms of media) are as racist. Lookout for the number of non-white people that will be supporting rugby. Piece of advice to the new coach: lets have Juan Smit of the Cheaters as the captain and see what happens…

For the record, Peter de Villiers, JP Pietersen and Bryan Habana are NOT black. They are coloured. It is extremely racist to disregard the coloured race and call them black. It is insulting to the coloured race. In fact there are still no black team players in the springbok rugby team.
