There is a lot of hype at the moment about who is going to be running for president of SA and the ANC. I think that it is one of the most interesting debates and situations that we have seen in a long time here in SA.
I wont delay my question any longer:
Who would be your ideal presidential candidate?
There are talks of Cyril Ramaphosa, Tokyo Sexwale, Jacob Zuma, Trevor Manual and others. I think that there are some interesting candidates.
When it comes to the ANC many people face confusion with the relation between the ANC president and the country’s president. Let’s explain: The ANC president can be Mbeki again, for another term, but the country’s president can not be Mbeki. Zuma is running for ANC president too and so is Sexwale. Any of these candidates can become ANC president. The trick is that if Mbeki becomes ANC president then the ANC will put forward another candidate to run for president of the country. If Zuma or Sexwale become ANC president then they can run for president of the country themselves.

Its Zuma
He has the support of the SACP, COSATU and ANCYL. He also has the support of the poor. Sexwale does not stand a chance. He will be the next ANC president, and he will be the next SA president.

Preacher: I am not sure I agree with you. Interesting developments at regional levels are taking place as we speak. The Gauteng premier has stepped down and a known Sexwale supporter has taken control.
Things are never as clean cut as “support of the poor” and the like. Just my opinion really.

Nic, the problem is not so much the man on the street, its the extreme shift towards the left that we are seeing Government. The problem is that there are two distinct sides in the ANC.
Those that support Mbeki and his more capatalistic approach to Governance, and those that are without doubt more socialist in their thinking. This is Zumas group.
Mbeki is determined not to let this group take control of the ANC. Its the reason why a sane man does not sack Manto. He needs all support, even bad support, for his side. Not for his own ambitions, but more for the sake of the countries economy.
Zuma has sold his soul to COSATU and the SACP. He is their man. Not only that, but the ANCYL is in his corner too. He support from within the ANC is growing, and he is more popular then ever.
Sexwale is popular, but he is not popular within the ANC. He is a businessman now, and the ANC sees him as that. Zuma is the next president. There is no one to compete with him, and heis going to take it by a landslide. It would be impossible for anyone to pip Zuma. He has a large percentage of the ANC behind him. With COSATU, the SACP and ANCYL? The elections are a formality
