Buy a laptop for a child – Start with Knysna

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) revolution is starting. Justin has blogged about this on SA Rocks before. And now it is coming and I think that we need to get on board and do it quickly. I know of so many people who are passionate about education in SA and especially with regard to children. Africa is the perfect place for this project to gain ground.

In fact I have the perfect suggestion for anyone reading this post considering this as a venture: Knysna.

I recently blogged that Knysna is the largest wi-fi hotspot in Africa. This, in my opinion, is the perfect place for the African continent to start their OLPC onslaught. Why not set children and the underpriveleged with the means to use the internet when the internet is already freely available. Let’s get right on that I think. How bout it?

XO Giving has set up a platform for people to go online and donate a laptop to a child. What a fantastic initiative that I hope takes off and is well supported around the world. Let’s hope that this initiative takes flight and is launched around the world and especially in Africa.

From the OXGiving website:

Our mission is to provide a means for learning, self-expression and exploration to the nearly two billion children of the developing world with little or no access to education. While children are by nature eager for knowledge, many countries have insufficient resources to devote to education—sometimes less than $20 a year per child. Imagine the potential that could be unlocked by giving every child in the world the tools they need to learn, no matter who they are, no matter where they live, no matter how little they may have.

Visit the site today and spread the love and the knowledge.

Why don't you give this post some love?

Would you be trying to start an OLPC Knysna through the Give 1 Get 1 program? If so, do realize they are only taking USA/Canada orders at this point, but I am thinking of ways around that restriction. Email me privately if you are interested.

I used to be performing some analysis and stumbled across your web site, not bad. I added your web site to my favorites. I am at work and can’t scan for too long while not getting in trouble but I will be back.
