Cape Town has been ranked as the tenth best city in the world in the Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards 2007 readers’ survey. In addition, nine South African hotels were named on the top one hundred hotels in the world list with Singita Sabi Sand/Kruger National Park coming in at the number two spot.

With the recently launched Accelerate Cape Town I think that everyone needs to get behind CT and rock it harder than it’s ever been rocked.

While I agree that CT is a beautiful city, blah, blah! What about the high rape figures, what about the filth in the streets that gets magically cleaned up when visitors are due? How do we hide people using the hiways and sidewalks as toilets? do we post signs at the subways warning of health risks, because they too have become toilets – which unfortunately don’t flush or get cleaned? Then of course we have the stop streets which to all intents and purposes do not exist, as they are ignored…… Do you still want to send millions of unsuspecting people to this “wonderful” city? We haven’t even mentioned power cuts, crime in general, glass on the beaches, polluted rivers, unused refuse bins – the road is wider!

Hi Jennifer – Yes, I gotchu and all the other nay-sayers. What you are saying is not wrong at all, there are those things. But all you’ve focused on is the negative above. Aren’t you tired of doing that?

And let me ask, what are you doing other than complaining? Are you trying to fix things? If you are, great stuff, if not, maybe it’s time to start?
