There is some coverage around and about the blogosphere regarding Online Trek’s post about the top 50 webgsites in SA.
From their site:
Time.com recently released their “50 Best Websites of 2007″. I thought it would be fun to generate our own list of 50 Best South African Websites of 2007.
I invite you to leave your suggestions in the comments of this post. I will collate the responses at the end of this month and post the results in August.
Rules :
1) The site must be based in South Africa
2) The site must be a current site – regularly updatedThere are some awesome South African sites out there – lets honour them by giving them our vote!
There is also a Facebook group so join if you want to get involved.
I am personally sceptical of this sort of initiative however well intentioned it is. There has already been attempts to shamelessly advertise some sites. I think that this is a great idea that I would hope goes far but will need some sort of formalisation in the long run.
For now, pop over to the original blog post and vote for your top SA Site!

Thanks Nic. I recognise that the process has its shortcomings but it is not intentioned to be a formal survey at all. This is just a fun way to gauge the popularity of sites based on users preferences.
I have been approached by someone already who is willing to enter discussion about taking this forward more formally. If you would like to be part of this discussion please do let me know – you can contact me through Facebook.
It is distinctly possible that for the 2008 list we could set up a site and formalise the voting process etc. For now, let’s just enjoy seeing what comes up and be part of the process.
Let’s not take this too seriously for now – just have fun with it!
PS – As you know I am keeping all in the Facebook group up to date regularly with the voting results. Feel free to add your votes there too.

Hi Nick – any site which is regularly updated, is great – and yours even more so! Thanks. Our company decided to help Mr Glenister to stop the disbanding of the scorpions. Two of us have been selected to give all our attention to the Hugh Glenister case and work 8 hours a day only doing this. An sms cost R5,00 and we donate 38% of this towards Mr Glenister’s legal fees and all the other admin, printing, paper, service provider fees, our salaries etc is paid by our company. Thus costing Mr Glenister nothing. We do it purely because we believe it is our ethical and moral responsibility as a company. Mr Glenister is in the process of opening a bank account where people can donate sums of money to assist him, but for the man in the street a mere sms (once-off, no weekly subscription nonsence) is affordable and for a good cause.
So here is what bloggers can do:
Send an email with the words “scorpions yes” to scorpions@savare.co.za or fax the same to 0880218521388 or send the same to 35052. We appreciate any help.
Kind Regards
Adie

I would like to access, on the web, the issues, pending decision in this matter. Specifically, I am referring to the Founding, Answering, Replying affidavits filed of record in the matter and the Heads filed by the parties.
