In a previous post I asked why people should come to SA.

The SA Rocks Facebook Group had some responses and I thought I should show some gratitude and post them up here.

because we can speak about 2 or 3 languages all at once, at any given moment. I was watching Motswako on SABC 2 last night and they were interviewing SA designers who are showing at Paris Fashion Week soon and the Sun Godess people were interviewed in Sesotho, reponded in English and Xhosa with full confidence that most viewers would understand. I mean you gotta love that. Esp. in places like Bloem where people speak Sotho, Tswana (that would be me), Xhosa, English and Afrikaans and a lot of our day-to-day speech is peppered with Afrikaans. Ek is rerig lief vir Suid Afrika!

It’s got everything!
From mountains to beaches – take into account that it’s got both warm and cold currented shores -, from big cities offering tons of entertainment to rural, peaceful areas. That’s just the land itself. Next up: the people. Wow, what a diverse nation! And with that comes a diversity of languages, cultures, backgrounds – you’d have a field day just meeting new people and trying not to offend them (haha). But seriously, SA’s got everything. Amazingly breathtaking scenery, fun people, mouthwatering braais (BBQs) and our tourism market just wants you to take part in everything. Come see the whales along the coast at Hermanus or go skiing in the Drakensberg!

I have just got back from a month tour of Europe and am sitting in the mid winter sun in durban typing this from my patio. I cant help but revel in the amazing weather and beautiful country i live in. But i keep thinking of the many conversations in the plane and bus on my trip with other south africans who can’t wait to “Escape” from South Africa. We can complete as many polls as we want but the facts remain that people want to leave the country for the safety of their children. The polls we should be broadcasting are what is good in SA that should keep our own people in, before we even worry about visitors! We need to do something to stop the mentality (or reality) that there is a better future elsewhere and that causes all our youth and ”brains’ to drain out of the country and leave an empty shell of a country that people want to Escape from. SA will always be home and i love it to pieces but i cannot help but to worry for my kids, just like anyone else who reads the paper.

People should visit SA for the expanses of uninhabited coastline that refresh the eyes and calm the mind.

Paul also added in that people should make use of the newly opened SA Rocks Wiki to tell us why they love SA and why others desperately need to get over here!

Thanks and keep those thoughts coming on the Facebook group.
