We all hate standing in the queues to pay traffic fines. This is a predominant issue in SA when it comes to anything related to government.
There is finally a solution: Payfine.co.za.
I am surprised that there hasn’t been more noise on the blogosphere regarding this site. I am happy to say that signup was a breeze and searching for my fines was even simpler. I don’t have any fines at the moment so I cannot confirm the simplicity of paying with your credit card, but let’s be honest, anything is easier than standing in line.
The only issue that I have about the site is that I don’t know who runs it and you have to enter your ID number to register.
Payfine supports the following areas at the moment:
- Cape Town
- Johannesburg
- Stellenbosch
- Paarl
- Swellendam
- Mosselbay
Other than, what a great and simple initiative to solve an irritating SA problem.

I also mentioned this on my blog, I think it absolutely rocks, almost as much as SA rocks! I recently saw the buy electricity website online, which is also fantastic! Great to see South Africa moving forwards in technology

I’ve been using PayFine.co.za for a while now (not that I get *that* many fines) to view fines – but their payment portion (last attempted to use in January 2007) does not work with credit card payment – finally gave up and paid my fine using EasyPay. I guess it’s all a step in the right (technological) direction.

Hey, great site! Its good to find some articles of interest while trawling the blogsphere. I first mentioned Payfines back in May. Unfortunately I havent had a reason to test it yet, but I think it is good that certain services are catching up with technology to make our lives easier, like buy airtime and electricity online. Nothing worse than running out of electricity and having to dash out in the rain to get more!

Hey Suspect, Thanks for the kind words!! I agree, think it’s great that things are moving online. I remember studying in Grahamstown in winter, running out of electricity and petrol and being screwed!! Froze my ass off that night.
So ja, online helps!!

I’ve made use of http://www.payfines.co.za in the past, but it seems to be down for the past month or so? Does anyone have any news about this?
December 3rd, 2007 at 1:13 pm
ok, got the problem. the correct link is http://www.payfine.co.za without the “s” after “fine” as previously stated.
December 22nd, 2007 at 7:39 am

January 14th, 2008 at 8:29 am
Neither labattraffic.com , payfines.co.za or myfine.co.za wants to open up.. What’s going on?
January 14th, 2008 at 8:46 am
pd…. it has to be http://www.payfine.co.za NOT payfines.co.za with an “s” at the end…

I’m so very disappointed in SA. I was in SA for two weeks and picked up over 5000 rands in fines, where? what for? that no doubt I’ll NEVER find out. I’m almost 60 years of age and have not received a single fine in Europe nor in the America’s. SA….never again!!!
April 9th, 2008 at 7:03 am
Hi Meryl,
Im really not sure what your point is? Are you angry because the traffic department caught you driving outside of the law? Are you angry because you can’t drive?
Maybe you should stick to the speed limits and not jump red robots or stop streets and you wont get fines? And if you want to see what the fines are for, go to the site listed above. Simple. And make sure you pay what you owe!! It’s the right thing to do.

Hi, Guys,
Just wanted to tell you that there is a book out there called;
“How to get off your Speeding Fine – LEGALLY!”
This manual contains all the legal information in regard to the rules governing the implementation of Speed Law Enforcement. It enables you ensure that when you are accused of a speeding, the prosecution against you is absolutely legal and correct and that the laid down requirements pertaining to speed trapping were all correctly in place and if not, how to get off! It also talks about unfair practice by the traffic cops themselves!
It’s written by a retired ex cop who knows all the loopholes and is willing to share them with you.
It gives you everything you need to know about speed traps AND roadside arrests for non payment of fines! It shows you how some of the traps are totally ILLEGAL! – I have successfully used this manual to get off four of my speeding fines! This book can save you a lot of hard earned money! I paid R120 for it and it gave me some good laughs as well. Excellent book, lots of info, well worth it!
I got mine from VIA-CON – The Hotline number is; 083-497-6770
The email address is viaconsult@telkomsa.net
Regards – Jan.

Hi there, I’m a Zimbabwean, I used to use the site just check for my fines and would pay even before they come in the post sometimes, but now because I don’t have an SA ID I can’t check, how can I be helped ?????????
April 16th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Hi Crispen, I’m sorry to say but I think the only way on the site is with a valid SA ID number. My suggestion is to contact someone on the website at payfine.co.za.
April 16th, 2008 at 11:09 am

May 16th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Hi, it lists fines due or paid from 2005-2006 but nothing more…..only thing is, I know I have more….but it is not reflecting. Anyone else every experience this as well?
May 19th, 2008 at 11:48 am
I paid for 3 traffic fines in August 2007 while stationed in Saudi Arabia (wife’s photo of course)and it works like a charm including the receipt and traffic offence numbers. Technology however did not catch up with South Africa yet as I received a court order on 17 May 2008 to appear in August 2008 for one of the fines mentioned above. I checked Payfine.co.za and was clean, but will keep a copy receipts in car JUST FOR IN CASE !!
June 16th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Hi
pay your fine. see it as recycled money. Traffic Constables also have to raise kids and earn a living. Thinking of it this way makes you feel better about getting fines
cheers

Hello
While I am a big fan of most of the current traffic fine managers I did see a hole in the market and have worked to plug it. We at Clearfine have a driver centred approach making it as easy as possible to pay your fines anywhere in South Africa, check us out at http://www.clearfine.com

Hey there. I recently joined (and paid) the “pay fines” group. Very easy to pay the fines however I drive all over the country and its a little frustrating that this site does not cover ALL the areas, in particular, KZN (durban), North West & Pretoria!!! If that can somehow be arranged then I will be one of the most honest citizens in the country with regards to fines. I’m sure the traffic dept would be glad to not have to fight and beg the public to go through to the relative stations to pay their fines or to send cheques through (hoping they arrive)…
October 30th, 2008 at 12:10 am
Was all going so well until they dragged me,kicking n screaming from my Vehicle, seems that fine that payfines indicated as “case finalised” was obviously not, just thought i’d let you know, now i always double check which is a right pain in the A..but who cares cos SArocks

HI, I HAVE A WARNING FOR ALL OF YOU THAT USE PAYFINE.CO.ZA…
NOT ALL THE FINES SHOW ON YOUR FIRST LIST THAT COMES UP WITH YOUR ID NUMBER….SOMETIME AGO ALOT OF FINES WHERE APTURED ON THE SYSTEM AND UNFORTUNATELY THEY DIDN’T HAVE THE ID NUMBERS… MY SUGGESTION, IF YOU HAVE A FINE PUT THE NOTICE NUMBER IN AS WELL AND THAT WILL SHOW YOU ALL THE FINES FOR THE VEHICLES….
IT HAPPENED TO MY DAD, I CHECHED THE FINES AND THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE SYSTEM USING THE ID NUMBER BUT WHEN HE GOT STOPPED AT A ROAD BLOCK…HE HAD R6000.00 WORTH OF OUTSTANDING FINES FOR 3 VEHICLES….
SO PLEASE CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK….
DON’T TAKE ANYTHING FOR FACE VALUE….
KIND REGARDS
HELEN

Thanks for the information, this is going to make life so much more simple for us. We get tons of traffic fines when we rent out cars, what a pleasure to be able to pay them all online!
February 18th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Do you have an idea of how can I view Pretoria fines……since they are not available on payfine.co.za any other useful website like this one?

Great website, but before you hurry on and do what you’re told it might be worthwhile to check whether the fine you got is actually valid instead of just throwing money down Metro’s coffers, i used this toolkit and it is saving me tons of money: Traffic Fines Toolkit

Hi. I would like to know if there are any fines against Reg. No. ND 171 – 164. I’ve tried checking using my ID No. but I can’t seem to find anything yet I know I do have an outstanding fine, and that prevents me from paying it online. Thank you.
July 5th, 2009 at 4:43 am
What a great idea, there isn’t enough time in each day as it is I find so the ability to be able to pay those awful fines online would make things a lot easier that is for sure.
Like you say, the only issue about the site is no knowing who is running it and the face that you have to enter in your ID number to register. But I guess if you don’t have to enter in your ID number you may end up paying the fine for someone else. Now that would not be good at all!
Or perhaps we should all just purchase the book about how to get out of fines legally and not have to pay any fines at all??
I also don’t have any current fines otherwise I would probably check it out but I am sure after a short period of time all the kinks will be ironed out and therefore all the problems solved.
Be interesting to see if this improves the revenue for unpaid fines with the easier option to actually pay rather than having to stand in line to do it. Who has the time.
Thanks for the info.
Regards
Adirec

dude,
am awaiting your apology for moderation = no backing stats.
August 14th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Nick. Check your email. Then – let me give you a quick lesson on blogs: When someone posts a comment with a lot of numbers it appears to be spam to the blogging platform. It automatically goes in to moderation and waits for the blog owner to approve the comment. It’s really quite a simple concept. So I wasn’t holding your comment because I was scared of it. Don’t be silly. It’s a simple matter of course. You still looking a bit silly over in Aus my friend.

Can anyone help me? I want to register the drivers of my vehicles as operators in order to get the traffic fines directly on their names. I’ve tried the re-direction route and it doesn’t work – the fines still get send back to me and not the driver of the vehicle. Help please!

If you are looking to get your Traffic Fines cancelled legally, go to http://www.trafficfinelaw.co.za where you can get excellent tips how to fight your speeding fines. Nearly 9 out of 10 Traffic Fines issued in South Africa have irregularities and are not admissable in court.
Dont Pay for invalid fines blindly!

This is all very well but for foreign visitors, South Africa still seems to be a third world country.
Dont get me wrong, I love SA. I have been driving and traveling all over the country in 2009 working at all the World Cup Stadiums in places like Nelspruit, CPT, PE, Polokwane, etc
However I got caught speeding and now I can not pay the fine.
SA does NOT rock my friends.
The police simply do not answer the telephone and when they do can not help me. I am not sending cash to a police station in Nelspruit.
Now I have to go to court on 11 FEB to pay the fine!! NO WAY! I live in the UK – but when I come to SA next time, the police will arrest me for not going to court – even though I have been trying EVERYTHING i can to pay the fine!!!!!!!
Nelspruit is one of the host venues for the World Cup. I have worked at 5 world cups. I do not think the people of SA simply know what will happen next year for 2010. There will be THOUSANDS of visitors and no doubt lots of police catching foreign driver speeding going down hill on roads that they do not know like I did and see a nice police man at the the bottom with a speed camera.
Can someone please suggest what I do?
