This weekend was an incredible one for the SA Sports Scene! We recorded wins in Golf (Walsh Open), Soccer (vs Chad) and Rugby (vs England).
On the Golf:
Richard Sterne put an end to a run of personal near misses but, agonisingly for the patriotic Welsh galleries, added another one to the list of their home favourite Bradley Dredge, when he triumphed in The 2007 Celtic Manor Wales Open. The diminutive South African stood tall when all around him shrunk back from the challenge to pick up the €368,812 (£250,000) first prize to move to fourth on The European Tour Order of Merit and also gain automatic entry into next month’s Open Championship at Carnoustie through the Official World Golf Ranking.
On the Rugby:
The boys played out of their boots yet again to hammer england 55-22. What a great victory to affirm our prowess of the European teams that have been showing dominance in the recent past. Australia and New Zealand also recorded victories over European teams to bring the Southern Hemisphere some pride this weekend.
The first half of the second test in Pretoria this weekend was hotly contested between England and South Africa. The second half was dominated by South African skill and try scoring. The Boks ended up destroying England in the end.
On the Soccer:
Bafana Bafana extended their group 11 lead to 3 points this weekend with their brilliant victory over Chad this past weekend. In a four goal fest Zuma scored two goals, Morris one and Nomvete one to pummel Chad.
South Africa do effectively need four points from their remaining two goals to qualify for the finals of the African Cup of Nations.
