I had my reservations about attending the German Beerfest. I had images of drunken youngsters fighting amongst themselves and getting very physical with one another.
This was not the case. I was pleasantly surprised by a multicultured gathering of young and old South Africans enjoying one another’s company and interests. There were about four beer tents occupied by thousands of people all having a big fat party with beer in hand. Each tent had its own music, televisions and DJ’s rocking their own jams. Much of the music was hiphop/kwaito and was being enjoyed by everyone present. White people rocking to some great kwaito music and dancing the day away.
Then things turned to the worst; the music stopped, the crowd swung round to face the DJ and begin their vicious attack. It was not to come, the Super 14 semi final featuring the Sharks was turned on and the commentary was pumped full blast. The crowds turned to face the T.V’s and begin cheering, shouting and singing. Every person in every tent was enthralled and supportive of the great performance that the Sharks put on. What a fantastic sight to behold. Every race and every culture present got behind the South African team whipping the Blues!
Here’s a cheerful video to illustrate how much the youth feels that SA Rocks:
Doesn’t that just blow your mind? Everyone standing together supporting a South African team, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
