The Star
Who could ever have guessed that the stars of Generations, Binnelanders, Egoli, Isidingo, Backstage and various stage companies would all join forces on one platform and read a great script? One of hope, of togetherness, of protest and of passion?
This is precisely what over 500 actors, artists and musicians did on Tuesday the 1st of May. Wearing red and armed with placards and their voices they marched to the Union Building in Pretoria. The congregation of protesters marched under the banner of Artists Against Crime. Many felt that the march was successful and had the desired impact.
One of the most vocal was Steve Hofmeyr:
“We are all sick and tired of crime and it’s a fact that it is only getting worse,” she said. Steve Hofmeyr – who will soon join the set of 7de Laan – said he was tired of hearing the government say that crime was decreasing.
“I pay my taxes – now keep my children safe, I pay my taxes – now keep my parents safe, I pay my taxes – now keep me safe,” he said.
