We all know that South Africans are just about the smartest people around (or do we?) right? Well here is a website that lists some South African inventions. I think it is a great idea and one that SA Rocks proudly supports.
Here are some of my favourite inventions:

Kreepy Krauly
The swimming pool vacuum cleaner was invented by Ferdinand Chauvier, a hydraulics engineer who came to South Africa from the Belgian Congo in 1951.
Pratley Putty
Pratley’s famous glue is the only South African invention that has been to the moon. In 1969 the putty was used to hold bits of the Apollo XI mission’s Eagle landing craft together. Krugersdorp engineer George Pratley invented his famous sticky stuff in the 1960s while looking for a glue that would hold components in an electrical box.
Dolosse
Dolosse are large, unusually shaped concrete blocks weighing up to 20 tons. The structures are designed to break up wave action and protect harbour walls and coastal installations. Designed by Eric Merrifield and first installed in East London harbour, they are now used all over the world.
Thanks to Khanya for notifying me of this post! For a more detailed look at the inventions visit sociolingo.

CAN ANYBODY HELP?
innovationTOWN is a campaign that looks to put innovation back on the national agenda and create a ‘can do’ attitude amongst all South Africans. As part of this programme, we run an iHero awards programme that recognises innovation across the board. I am sure that you must be coming across new innovative people and projects and I was wondering whether I could ask your assistance to encourage people to enter our iHero awards or enter yourselves – it is always a challenge to find new innovators. They need to be looking at innovation (it can be from any sector – public, private, community) – a new business, product, market, paradigm shift, process, enhancement that has been running for at least 9 months (ie not just an idea, but has proved itself sustainable), is not older than about 3 years and is South African in origin.
Check us out on our website http://www.innovationtown.co.za
Looking forward to hearing from you

Skip Hop Studio Diaper Tote Handbag is awesome. So several pockets – and not really these small, useless pockets, either. All of the storage compartments are a great dimension and seriously aid keep everything organized. The handles are a fantastic length and fit nicely more than the actual shoulder; the tackle straps additionally remain put on my arm, which is actually crucial when you are transporting a child. The handbag looks great, as well. Not too fancy, but not too casual. (I’ve it in black) The material is soft (can’t think of a far better word) so it is easy to squeeze in to tight spaces – but yet it’s sturdy. I have a Fleurville Lexi tote and I love it, as well, but this bag is type of stiff. I feel that Skip*Hop may become my daily handbag. It’s a bit large – so if you’re not really in to significant bags this may be greater as an over-night diaper tote.
