Coffee Bay in the Transkei…no doubt

What makes a great beach ?
Is it miles of sparkling white sand ? Thousands of luscious tanned bodies slowly roasting with the aroma of coconut oil lingering ? A great beach break that allows you to body surf a tube or two ? Safe swimming for the kids ?
I must admit living in the Garden Route does spoil you a little and the beaches mentioned in are all worthy, however, my choice would have to be Victoria Bay. It may get a little crowded in season but with a large grass section, a pub right next door, great ablution and changing facilities, an excellent beach and point break and reasonably safe and sheltered swimming it takes my vote. Living only a few minutes drive from it doesn’t hurt either.

Shocking!!! No one has said Umhlanga yet! it is positively the best place to chill out and just relax… It has a great nightlife too.

Don't forget Wilderness beach. There is no view more breathtaking that the sudden splendor of the Golden Beach of Wilderness that appears out of nowhere as you round the corner at Dolphin's point in Kaaimans Pass. Since I made it my home six months ago I still take time to look each time i round the corner. It is good to be home...

My favourite SA beach is Llandudno ..living there for a few years I got to discover so many secret spots in that gorgeous secluded bay & all its corners sprinkled with bright memories

BTW for surfers – since surfers & beaches tend to be synonymous – go to Wavescape for the BEST breakdown of SA breaks along our shores… thanks to the legendary Spike. In fact even if you aren’t a surfer, the site is too cool :: ESPECIALLY the surfikan slang page (go to the bottom links) hilarious
