SA music scene Rocks!

I firmly believe that the South African music scene is one to be proud of. We have the likes of Prime Circle and The Parlotones on the rock side of things who are absolutely brilliant and are making waves internationally. You have Arno Carstens gone solo and who can deny South Africa the Springbok Nude Girls. We also have Seether and Tree 63 who have made it large over the seas.

Then you have Jamali who has just come out with a phenomenal song called Secrets. Harris Tweed (I know an ex-member) has officially been played on MTV Europe and is making huge movement to the overseas market by playing in festivals abroad.

There is also a fantastic amount of truly and proudly South African music genre one in particular I’d like to mention: Kwaito. Kwaito does not exist anywhere but here in SA and that makes me proud. I found a cool documentary site that outlines some stuff about Kwaito. Other Kwaito artists to check out include; Zola, Bango Maffin and Mandoza.

I love SA music, you know that! What about Freshly Ground and their big win at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Then Ladysmith Black Mambazo is huge internationally- look at their several grammy Awards nominations. Then the Soweto Gospel Choir won a grammy last week in the Best Traditional World Music Album… which I think is fab! SA artists aren’t divas, they perform music because they love music and they love what they do…

That song by Jamali is fantastic. I agree, and I think those girls are really talented! What about Just Jinger? Unathi, Louise Carver, Loyiso? We’re blessed and I miss SA music over here in the States!
